The Calgary Sport Council believes that the existence of a strong sport community contributes to the quality of life in Calgary by:

- Recognizing that sport is a basic component of the formal physical educational process beginning in youth and continuing as a lifelong pursuit.
- Influencing more community members to participate.
- Creating accessible activities and events.
- Continuously considering the diverse scope of capabilities, interests and dedication present in the community.
- Providing participants with a sense of ownership in their community.
- Forging strong and diverse sets of relationships creating a robust sense of community.
- Acquiring support from and facilitating the training of community sport leaders and volunteers.
- Acquiring support from governments, private sector and community.
- Stimulating economic activity.
