Our Beliefs

The Calgary Sport Council believes that the existence of a strong sport community contributes to the quality of life in Calgary by:

    • Understanding the essence of sport is in the enjoyment of participation.
    • Advocating the benefits of the sporting experience and its relationship to active living.
    • Facilitating positive impacts on physical and emotional health through sport.
    • Affecting participants’ growth in their capacity to effectively conduct themselves in challenging circumstances.
    • Recognizing that sport is a basic component of the formal physical educational process beginning in youth and continuing as a lifelong pursuit.
    • Influencing more community members to participate.
    • Creating accessible activities and events.
    • Continuously considering the diverse scope of capabilities, interests and dedication present in the community.
  • Providing participants with a sense of ownership in their community.
  • Forging strong and diverse sets of relationships creating a robust sense of community.
  • Acquiring support from and facilitating the training of community sport leaders and volunteers.
  • Acquiring support from governments, private sector and community.
  • Stimulating economic activity.
