>>New Board Members Elected
On
November 22, 2007, the Calgary Sport Council welcomed
over forty-five representatives and friends from Calgary’s
sport community to partake in our Annual General Meeting. After an exciting election process,
Charlotte MacNaughton was re-elected to the Board
for another term. The newly elected Board Members are:
Scott Davis, Shelley Fried, Lew Hayes,
and Melody Warman. All sharing a profound love
for amateur sport and a devotion towards the progression
of sport in Calgary the elected Board Members
bring a wide-range of skills and experience to the
Calgary Sport Council. Their expertise will
undoubtedly assist us in achieving our
objectives.

Fund
The Canadian
Olympic Committee (COC) today unveiled its new Athlete
Excellence Fund, an athlete support and reward program that
will provide Canadian athletes with performance awards of up

>> CSC Appoints New Communications and Program Coordinator - November 8, 2007
The
Calgary Sport
Council is pleased to announce Nora O’Malley will fill the role
of
Communications and Program Coordinator. As a graduate of Mount Royal
College’s
Bachelor of Business and Entrepreneurship – Sport and Recreation,
we are
confident Nora will bring the expertise and professionalism required to
assure
the prosperity of the CSC. In addition to her academic background in
Sport and
Recreation, Nora has had the opportunity to work with several local
non-profit
sport organizations, including: the Canadian Sport Centre Calgary,
KidSport
Calgary, and the Alberta Alpine Ski Association. Nora has also been a
competitive fencer for the past decade. Being a member of the National
and
Provincial Fencing Team, she has competed in many different Games and
Championships
from the grassroots to the international level. Nora is passionate
about promoting and developing sport in Calgary. "I'm really looking
forward to working with the Calgary Sport Council. Sport in Calgary is
in a good place right now but I know we can make it better and I hope
to be a significant contributor to this process."

This winter Right To Play will launch the second annual Harris Steel
Right To Play Skate in partnership with Canadian NHL teams. With funds
raised through participation, pledges and sponsorship, Calgarians can

support local children through the Flames Foundation for Life and Right
To Play's Sport for Development and Peace programming in the most

Ottawa - Two new studies, conducted concurrently for the Coaching
Association of Canada (CAC) by researchers from Queens' University and
Dalhousie University, are expected to lead the way in effectively
involving New Canadians in coaching and the National Coaching
Certification Program (NCCP), Canada's leading edge coach training and

recreation and sport sectors so that all organizations and initiatives
are united and coordinated, and it will work with its partners to

friendship, better understanding and respect for one another’s language and

A questionnaire is now available for Albertans to provide input on how they would allocate funds in the next provincial budget. The responses will help provide context for the government as it

This
7-stage model is a training,
competition, and recovery program based on developmental age (the
maturation level of an individual) rather than chronological age. It is
athlete centred, coach driven, and administration, sport science, and
sponsor supported. Athletes who progress through LTAD experience
training and competition in programs that consider their biological and
training ages in creating periodized plans specific to their development
