Shaping the Future of Sport in Calgary

As outlined in the Civic Sport Policy, the Calgary Sport Council (CSC) will serve as a representative authority and a voice for amateur sport in Calgary.  The CSC will work collaboratively with The City of Calgary  to make recommendations with respect to sport infrastructure, program sustainability and other sport-related priorities.

Conducting the Sport Needs and Preferences Study is the critical first step toward meeting this mandate.

Comprehensive Implementation Plan

The Calgary Sport Council engaged HarGroup Management Consultants Inc. to provide expertise and guidance in study design and execution. To effectively gather information from Calgary’s Sport Community, the SPORT Needs and Preferences study will be implemented in 6 unique phases. The phases include: a telephone survey to the general public, an online survey to local sport organizations, interviews with school boards and post-secondary institutes, and online surveys distributed to sport development groups and facility operators.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Sport Needs and Preferences Study?
The objectives of the Study are:
•    To obtain a comprehensive, accurate picture of Calgary's current sport delivery system.

•    To evaluate future needs and preferences of the sport community in Calgary.

The Sport Needs and Preferences Study will provide the base information for a Sport 10-year Strategic Plan for sport infrastructure development and sustainability that will be presented to City Council in June 2008.

The purpose of the Study and Strategic Plan is to develop a framework for facility development and sustainability that will protect and enhance sport services to Calgary’s increasingly diverse population, while providing guidance to major stakeholders for future provision of sport opportunities and investments across the city.
What is the goal of the Sport Needs and Preferences Study?
